EDT 7160: Telecommunication and Online Applications
Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC)
Here is my digital artifact regarding my opinion and experience of the MOOC experience in this class. Although I joined the Georgia Tech MOOC that failed and was never able to join the EDC MOOC from Edinburgh, I still learned a great deal about how MOOCs work. In addition, I conducted some research to find out more about MOOCs in regards to how they might change higher education. After reviewing some of the content (YouTube recordings of hangouts and content posted in Moodle) and researching the topic, I created this digital artifact. This artifact was created in Xtranormal in pieces and then edited together in Adobe Premiere. The artifact is in the format of a debate between an older professor, who is set in his 19th and 20th Century ways, and a younger professor, who is embracing the 21st Century educational conventions. In addition, I offer my thoughts on some of the different issues currently facing MOOCs and some of the "fixes" that might need to take place before they can begin taking the place of traditional university course. One note about this digital artifact: this artifact has a few technical glitches in it. The text-to-speech generator in Xtranormal left some words out here and there. Sources used in the artifact can be found at the bottom of the page.

Web and Mobile Applications
This sample Moodle unit was created to work with my current ed tech internship, EDT 7860, and IDOL courses. At my internship site, I was asked to take a look at the current computer technology class curriculum and see if it needed revising. One of the areas that we saw as a need was to introduce some web-based applications that could replace the need to use the Microsoft Office suite. Around the same time, my instructional design course required us to create a unit of study. I also needed to create a WebQuest for EDT 7860, so I decided to tie all of these things together, using a variety of web-apps to demonstrate how these tools could be introduced to students in a unit of study. To create this sample Moodle class, I utilized Softaculous via TMD hosting to install Moodle onto my domain.

During this semester, I decided to start developing a portfolio showcasing my multimedia/graphics work. I decided to use Wix to build a website housing my portfolio. What was really interesting in creating this site was that Wix operates on HTML5. It was interesting to see how HTML5 allows for some new formatting that isn't possible through other sites, like Weebly. However, with the large variability in the formatting created some headaches for me when trying to line everything up to make the page look uniform.

I was first planning on using WordPress to begin developing a website for an organization I co-founded with a few others from my high school Alma Mater to raise scholarship money for senior high school students. While working with WordPress, I kept running into glitches, and finally gave up on using it. In response, I decided to use Google Sites to create this website, primarily because I haven't had a reason to use it until now. So, it took a little while to get a "lay of the land", so to speak, I was finally able to move the content from the old WordPress web site to the new Google Site. However, this page is intentionally left "undone", because my co-founders and I are still in the process of getting the organization up and running, so we don't have all of our resources up yet.

While I was playing around in iBuildApp, I kept thinking about how many people have smartphones and tablets at my church. So, I decided to create an app that would put all the information about our church at the fingertips of our members and attendees. While I enjoyed creating this app, there area few quirks in some of the functions. The Messages and Call buttons won't work on the web preview, but do work if viewed on a smart phone (I tried it on my iPhone, and it all worked). Even though I didn't submit my app to Apple or Google, the app can be viewed as a web app through the browser on your phone.

The time log for all of my out-of-class activities are located on the class MediaWiki under my name.

Just for Kicks
Even though I have fulfilled the five site requirement for this course, I wanted to include some of my other work I have been doing online.
This is my portfolio site I have been housing on Weebly for all of my Educational Technology learning and internship experiences.

This is a site created on Weebly that I create back in high school and continue to maintain it today for my Alma Mater. We are currently working on re-designing the site, so some things may not be functional/up to date.

This is another website I created on Weebly for the EDT 7800 ICT class this semester. For the past 7 years, I have gone down and volunteered for my Alma Mater when they take 6th grade students to Camp Joy, located in Clarksville, Ohio. I created this informational site for parents of 6th grade students preparing for camp.
